Ducks Raised For Meat

tracy, when you'll raise ducks, you'll feed the chickens to your dogs, i promice.

Mscovy IMO is the absolute best duck for taste. Pekin for quicker time to the table. The actual taste diffrence in muscovy and pekin is descernably better in the muscovy over pekin or any other duck it just takes a bit longer to get them to the table. IMO its worth the time and I raise them both and rouen, khakis, swedish, mallard and wild breeds.

I love both Muscovy and Pekin. The Muskovy is a lot leaner. Pekin can be fatty if you aren't careful how you raise them. Both are delicious.

Slightly OT here but, someone told me ducks have to be butchered by a certain age (I don't remember what the number was, but young) or the feathers won't come off. Or something like that. Is that true?

My Anconas are 4 months old and I'd like to eat the drakes. Is it too late? Also, do they make as good eating as Muscovys or Pekins?

Thanks!
