Ducks without a pond...swimming pool?

Any recommendations on what kind of duck to get...I see one vote for khaki campbells.

Cayugas. Supposedly the quietest duck, aside from Muscovy. All black, really pretty irridescent green sheen to the feathers. Black bills, legs, little webby feet. Adorable Ninja stealth ducks.

(Also good meat ducks, for those who raise 'em for such. Not me.)

If you're one of those people who are wierded out by the idea of eating duck eggs, I nominate a pekin. our pekin doesn't lay any eggs... and she's definately a girl... Plus, she's the only duck that doesn't run screaming when I look at them. and as far as the peas go, I let them thaw for a few minutes in the water before I let the ducks out.

Your pekin doesn't lay eggs????? I thought pekins were kind of like dual purpose. They layed white eggs and could be used for meat. I am planning on getting some and only using them for eggs. I have never heard of this. I wonder...

We have Khaki Campbell ducks that are not "water ducks". They love to play with water from a bucket. We also use a heavy rubber tub that we bought at TSC, fill that with water, sometimes throw in leafy green or other treats and they play in that. A childs pool would work too. We don't treat the water- they mess it up in the day, so we have containers that are small enough that we can empty them out and rinse them at the end of the day.

What kind of ducks are you thinking of getting?

I'm glad to hear my Khaki girls are normal. I thought I was the only person on the planet whose ducks didn't like the pool! One of mine will get in for about 3 minutes. Then the water just sits till I clean it. What size rubber tub do you use?
