Some of you probably saw the original post about how to move in a new male duck(welsh harlequin). I got him to go with my lonely female. It has been a week and I free range them now(in a pen at night). He is doing fine with the flock. There is just one problem, they won’t mate. She gets in her small pool and he just drinks the water and cleans himself without getting in. One time he got in but they didn’t mate. I tried to put him in a bigger pool because he’s used to a pond and he liked it but she got out immediately. That leads me to believe she doesn’t like him or she was scared. I thought WH have a high libido? He doesn’t seem interested in mating. How do I fix this?

Are you wanting him to mate your female so you can hatch eggs? If it's only been a week since integration he may just still be acclimating to his new home, just give him some time. In the long run, I'm not too sure if a one to one ratio will work out very well for the female.

Could be possible that one of your ducks are changing gender. But I would give it some time if you just moved him into the coop. The ducks may not trust him yet.:)

How would they be changing genders. The female now that I think about it is really weird. Her friend died in front of her and it was traumatic for her. When she gets near our main rooster she quacks and bobs her head up and down but it’s off to the side of her.

Males sometimes have favorites. So its possible that the the female that died was his favorite and now he may be favoring her more. In might help to get 1or 2 more females to distract him.

Oh i’m sorry I forgot to say her friend died before I got him. The reason I got him was to get her a friend and to get ducklings.
