Ducks

I don't know, I guess ducks that would get a little more attached to you. If that's a thing. I have a nice pond and am building a nice dock with another floating dock as well. I wouldn't mind being able to chill on the dock in the morning or evening and have them swim around me . Sorry I really don't know anything about them yet

Any duck will make a great pet, plenty of bonding with them when young and of course treats will definitely make them your best friend. I would avoid heavy breeds like Pekin/White layers they can develop serious leg problems when older, at least in my experience with them. I'm a bit biased but calls are my favorite, they make great pets, eat less food, less waste, can fly and not to forget adorable. They are one of the loudest breeds right in front of the Pekin though, I personally find their chatter very amusing and have enjoyed many hours just watching them wattle around the yard.

Lets us know what you decide on! Best of luck with your duck adventure!

Mallards might get a wild bug and decide to fly south/ north. So you might want to choose a breed less known for that. There are so many truly gorge breeds that don’t tend to fly or if they fly don’t want to migrate. I am a fan of Welsh Harlequin, and even like the look of the silver Appleyards. But there are lots of interesting colors avialible in ducks to finds.

Thanks for the info everyone. So we were going to get four ducks but they had 5 left so I couldn't leave the 5th behind lol. I think they're the all white ducks. They're about 6 inches tall right now and all bright tan. We also got 6 barred rock chicks. So for my next question lol. I built a nice coop, 8x8x8, I'm going to put a fenced in area in front of the coop. If I was to run the fenced in area right into my pond, about 6 feet in, would fox or raccoons swim around the fence to get at them or do you think they would say the hell with that and leave the ducks alone.

Sure they would, also snapping turtles will kill them too to say nothing of the flying predators
