I am a wildlife rehabber. I mostly do wild animals but take in a few domestics that have been released. They very often get in trouble out there. Right now I took in a wild Mallard make limping badly. No injuries I can find but he is missing the big foot pad at the base of his foot. No injury there just no pad. He has a very hard time walking because of it. Will this pad rejenerate . What can I do to help him?

I don't think the foot pad will regenerate but, maybe the area will harden over and be able to withstand the affects of walking.

Could you post a thread over at the duck forum? Could you post a picture of the foot, so we can get an idea of what we're dealing with here?

I'd keep him in a dog kennel, for now, provide some food and water and make sure he is warm and dry.

Welcome to BYC. Once the pad heals his limping should become minimal if that is the problem. There is always the possibility that his leg/hip may have been injured.
