If your daughter would like a duck companion I recommend call ducks. They are usually a little less messy than larger ducks but they only lay 50-70 green tinted eggs a year. I also recommend pekins since they are OKAY at laying but they are known to be friendly.Hi all, We're raising two silver appleyards. My daughter wants to show them as "companion animals" for 4H and we're looking forward to some eggs. These two (Flanagan & Cornelia) are loads of fun and worth all the mess. This is our first "go" at raising ducks and I've found myself on this forum searching for answers so frequently...it's a fantastic forum! I wish I'd have found a forum like this when my daughter was a newborn; sometimes these ducklings remind me of what it's like to be a new parent! Anyways, it's good to be here and I'm looking forward to learning more about our new duck friends...and making some new people friends.
