Ducks

Hi my DH has been nagging me to get some ducks

not hard to twist my arm hehe
But I have a few questions first

1. How do shipped duck eggs go do they have a good hatching rate. I would like at least 4 ducks so how many eggs would be best to try and insure that. Dont mind any extras that hatch

2. Can all the ducklings (ducks and drakes) live harmoniously if raised together?
If so what breeds are best for this (temperament)

3. Might be a strange question but do ducks cross breed like chickens?

Personally, I would order from a hatchery if you don't have prior hatching experience. Then try to hatch some eggs from those. Ducks ARE very messy, so be prepared! (If you don't want a lot of them there are a couple hatcheries that let you buy based on minumim purchase price, not minimum quantity. I think Ideal has a min of $20....

I got three from Ideal Poultry. And then got 3 Musocvey from HatTrickSilkies (BYC member). I love them. You will too. As cjeanean said, Ducks are messy, but personally I think they are worth it. If you would like to see mine, go here....
