Ducky Water Slide

Quote:
Mine do this all the time too. It doesn't give me much faith in their brain size, because they've been through the drill so many times it seems that they would eventually learn to walk around.

my ducks wig out when something new is around, or we move something. The ducks have a pond at my house and then at the neighbors (we have interconnecting yards and we 'share' the ducks and chickens

but the ducks had a fit the other day when they came down to my side yard for their snack and figured out there were chickens in the tractor and FOOD! It was raining so the chickens didn't get let out (Silkies) and so the ducks all were trying to work out how to get inside the tractor to get to the yummy watermelon slice and feed tube that was there, way funny as one actually managed to jump on top of the tractor and was pacing on the roof of the mini coop. X_x only to not pay attention that the run was sloped and go "opps" falling down the side. way too funny to watch them trying to figure it all out and learning the yard way.

But these ducks otherwise are pretty smart and VERY brave, they are coming down to my back door now if they think I'm not coming out to feed them their evening snack! And my dogs can just quite not get to the back door THANKFULLY, but the ducks will be 4 feet from where one of the dogs can get to when she's out there and are quacking at the dog and quacking at the door doing the food chant. Now though they are starting to gather a posse of chickens as well now that the chickens have figured out theres food to be had. X_x started off with 7-9 ducks coming down for their snacks then the ducks + 1 rooster and a couple hens...this AM I heard them out there and it was 7 ducks and about 10 hens and the 1 big rooster. X_x and a few of the younger chicks.

I have my 4 dogs around my ducks when I'm present. I do trust the boys when I'm not around, but not the girls. So in a short dogs and ducks are not together when I'm not around. Better safe then sorry. Anyway Sammy our golden had a rawhide stick and he was just laying next to it. He was done chewing on it and cared less. Sunshine thought it was time to check out the rawhide stick. She walked over grabbed the stick and walked off with it only to dump it a few feet away. Sammy just looked totally lethargic at the ducks. He did not even lift his head. He never protects his food. She should have tried that with Jacob. He would have growled at her, but not done anything either. Those dogs are so laid back. Our cat invited Sammy later that day for a cuddle. She just rolled on her back on the tarmac so he would come over. He walked over layed down next to her and she started to rub on him, layed down closer, pawed him and started to chew on his feet. Crazy cat. She was a stray we trapped on our property. We had he fixed and she never looked back at her old life. She just loves dogs. Even after a coyote attacked her and she needed surgery.

my dogs are inside/outside and I'll let the dogs out on the electric fence when I'm outside but if I'm not they are tied because one dog will run straight through the fence if I'm not out there to reprimand her. I dont trust the dogs with the ducks but the ducks up until recently have stayed on the other side of my property and on the total of the neighbor's so it hadn't been a problem. now though they see me coming and going out the back door and are all "OH okay well we need to go there to get her to come out"...so i may be putting up a small mesh fence as a barrier for the ducks on that side of the yard to keep 'em away from the dog's side and re-learn them that the 'side yard' is food area not the back door area.

I want a pool with a slide now! I have a small kiddie pool, and I have a slide from a Little Tykes playhouse, but I have it there so they can climb it and get in the pool. I have to get a bigger pool so they can slide INTO the pool!

That must be so cute to watch!

Ok, tried to take pictures. Darn duck slid down and I missed it. You see Sunshine (yes she learned from Shadow) on top and then in the water. You can still see the water moving where she just passed through. I will try to get another image tomorrow.

Oh my, katharinad, my big Muscovies would never go in a pool that deep. I got them one once and ended up tossing it. I tried it in different locations, block steps like yours, no no No way.

They have a small dog pool, with brick pavers for steps and they splash around in it. Thats their limit on depth.

What fun though. Keep trying for a sliding picture.

I just love it!!!

My ducks never want to leave the pool. I moved them to there new area and they are still getting use to it. Everything to them has monsters, even there new coop. They are not thrilled

I'm hoping with in a week they should be ok. I do have a baby pool for them and it has a drain

Since I moved them man are they getting it muddy

They love the clear clean water, they get all excited

The ducks are almost 6 weeks old. Two of them learn to swim under water. They thought that was the coolest thing ever

They even made a wake....... too funny. I think they would love a deep pool. This one is about a foot deep maybe a little more. Now, all I have to do is try to figure out how to keep it less muddy.

I know I will come up with something sooner or later. I really have to get a slide........ roflol.
