i REALLY thought about getting the pool like that for my ducks! i'm kinda mad i didn't now. my drake is kinda on the slower side LOL not sure he'd do anything. plus when i go outside he stops anything he's doing to greet me. LOL i wonder if my hen would like it though?

That's is just too cute

I would have never thought of that for a pool. When I got my ducks at a feed store I was told not to let the chicks get wet since they didn't have the oils yet. This way they wouldn't get a chill. So I did my best to keep them dry and warm.......

When they got bigger I took them outside so they could enjoy the sunshine and some swimming.

They all say that about the chill, but reality is the glands will start producing earlier when exposed to water. You just have to do it correctly so they don't chill or drown. This means some form of vessel that allows them to get out of the water and never leave them alone. The key is to give them warm water and to watch them sitting next to them. They will eventually slow down playing and that is when you have to take them out. You must dry them off and put them back into the brooder. That way they don't chill and they even start good grooming behavior early on. So mine are in the water at day 3. Now they are as water crazed as my 6 month old golden retriever. You can also get a small space heater for the bathroom and get it nice and warm in there. Do not have it blow directly at them, just get the room nice and hot. That way you can put a towel into the tub after draining it and just leave them there until dry. I do that once they are 1.5 weeks old. Its amazing how fast they get the water out of their hairy downs. They are fast learners.

I put mine in a large bowl of warm water for a bit last night. Just to get them cleaned off. They get their rubbermaid tub so messy. I had 8 baby chicks in with them and washed them up too then popped them all under the brooder lamp. Worried all night that washing the chicks was a bad idea, but they're all fine and well this morning.

Still wondering at what age do the drakes get their curl?
