Dumb bird

Normally I don't agree with the'chickens are dumb' way of thinking as I haven't come across a dumb one yet but i think I have one now! She's a polish bantam had her about 6 months,she came with 3 other silkies and a pekin.usually at bedtime the silkies will roost outside with her,I think the run is reasonably safe but it's not covered so I put them to bed every night.when the weather is bad,raining and a howling gale,as it is tonight the silkies and pekin sensibly go inside,not her! No she will sit there getting soaked on her own.she also doesn't eat any treats like mealworms,corn,greens etc,just stands there looking at all the others tucking in,otherwise beautiful healthy bird just daft as a brush!.

I currently have a 'dumb chicken'. She is a rescue production bird, who obviously knows nothing about life. It took me over a month just to train her to actually get on a perch. She often sees me as more of a chicken than my actual chickens. She obviously didn't know that chickens peck new comers. It took several pecks from my other hens before she realized that hey, this actually hurts, and maybe I shouldn't be invading this bird's space. She's learned a lot, but still obviously isn't even close to smart like my other chickens. I've been trying ever since I got her to teach her to come when I call her for treats, but she still doesn't seem to make the connection....

One thing about your Polish: Her crest might need to be trimmed back some to provide her with better sight. That might help her some. I do agree though. I had some Polishes, and they didn't seem to be as bright as other birds I owned...

Yeah I was wondering if she could see properly, I had a look the other day and I could see her eyes but maybe I'll give her a trim! I do like the responsibility of looking after her a night,I'm a proper chicken dad
