Dumb Chick Questions

I brood mine indoors on towels for the first week, which you can shake out outside then wash and reuse. There's no worry of gettting shavings in the food or water that way. I used shavings for a day on one batch of chicks and i'll never use them again. After that week I put them in rabbit cages with wire floors and drop pans. The feather footed breeds do much better on wire because it keeps their feet clean, and it is so easy to clean out because you don't have to interfere with the chicks.

Hi, I only have 4 , but I put a small bowl into a non tip bowl (a dog dish), on the ground, and when they scratch alot of the food out of the small bowl, I empty what's in the bigger bowl back into the smaller bowl. I have hardly any mess.
With the water, it's a regular auto fill waterer, and I put it on small blocks. Keeps the water cleaner.
