So if you look at the pic you will see two openings for the chickens to hop through in order to enter the nesting box. Each openinh is 12” wide. They are 6” off of the floor. As the bird comes through the opening toward the viewer she will be entering the nesting boxes. There will be two boxes.
Anyway, can the chickens hop up the 6 inches to enter the nesting box? Are they too high?

Chickens like to perch on the lip of the nesting box before they enter. Typically they poop before they enter. Not a bad idea. I would add a 2x4 to the bottom so they have something to hold on to.

I have an idea. Watch for my fix this evening!
 
Chickens can easily step up 6".
Plus once your bedding is in there it may be less of a 'leap'.
