Dumb question about runs

LuvinMyPeeps,

I had the same questions about 5 months ago when we built our run and coop. I tried several different methods until some wonderful person from this site gave me the best idea and has worked wonderfully! I use a 6" bed of pine shavings in the coop, after two weeks of use, I simply shovel it out into the run. So the next time I need to clean the coop out, I shovel all the old stuff out of the run into a compose pile, then shovel the used stuff from the coop into the run, then add the clean shavings into the coop. However, I do agree with winekntrychicks that it does get quite gross in when it rains. So now my run is covered with a tarp to help keep the rain out. OH Yeah, one last thing we did, we took a 2x6 board and put it in the corner of the run and filled the corner with playground sand....the chickens love to dust themselves in it and it works great.

Hope this helps!
Laura
