My boss was horrified when he learned that we butchered. "You eat your own animals?"
"Yes." I replied. "Who's do you eat?"
HAHAHAa!

I used to freak out and wash my hands obsessively after touching a clean chicken. Then two things happened, fair week and working at a daycare. Now I wash my hands every time a kid touches me (gotta love the paranoia that BBP-universal precautions training instills...) but not really all that much after handling a *clean* chicken. I ate an entire basket of chicken strips and fries after handling show chickens, and I realized it almost an hour later. I laughed weeks later, because I didn't get sick, but all I could think was "I was eating chicken after touching essentially raw chicken."
I have an incubator full of eggs that should hatch Friday, and I started clucking at the eggs today (day 19) since they would normally "talk" with the hen. I heard a little peep back from the bator, and called my mom to tell her about it. I explained how the chick can hear and peep from inside the shell, and she gasped and said "NO WAY!". At first I thought she was joking, but she was seriously impressed and ecstatic. LOL
Oh how cool! So cool that I copied your post and sent it to family and friends. THANKS for that!
They hate anyone other then them having animals and your a Demon if you consume one oh well I'm still top of the food chain and I'll stay there thank you
Yeah, I got one of those PETA calendars too. You sign one petition, and you have free calendars and return address labels for life, he he.
But I don't see what's the harm in taking unfertilized eggs. I once had an argument with a vegan online who said that "The hens need to EAT the unfertilized eggs to regain the nutrients they lose! They'll get unhealthy if you take them! And it also stresses them, they think their babies are disappearing!"
I responded that an egg eater doesn't know the difference between unfertilized or fertilized, thereby meaning she's a genetic dead end because she'll eat all her own eggs. As for being stressed, most hens don't feel the need to be mothers 'all' the time. Besides, the whole point of supplementing their 'natural' diet is to replace the nutrients they lose to eggs.
Stupid vegan demanded 'pier reviewed studies' for my claims. I cited personal experience. Not good enough for her.
Yeah, I know plenty of great vegans! As is the case for most things, it's the really loud minority that applies some kind of moral judgement to the human/animal partnership that ruin it for everyone else.
As for if PETA is only against factory farms... I found a blog on tumblr not too long ago where the person claimed to be running a "rescue farm" where she would take in animals from other farms. She claimed that no, not even small back yard home operations where they cared for the animals weren't good enough, they were still exploiting and enslaving innocent animals and stealing from them, raping them, etc. I honestly had to wonder if her animals were really "rescues" or if she just stole them.
