About 5 months ago my dad told his boss, a woman from Carolina who grew up on a farm I know she had barred rocks, that I was incubating my chickens eggs. All of my chickens lay brown eggs or cream colored egg, so she said that only chickens that have touched dirt lay brown eggs and ones that haven't lay white eggs. I decided to keep my mouth shut about blue, green and other colored eggs. I wonder what she would've said! Speaking about incubating I am putting some eggs in tonight all fathered by recently disappeared rooster, Rodney the one in my profile , and some mothered by a hen that also disappeared and by the rest of my hens that are laying.
RIP Rodney and unnamed hen.

Perhaps blue egg layers have walked on the sky, and green egg layers, certainly... that's a no brainer. They've been on the grass.

Some friends of mine are building a coop. They were at our house for a BBQ and we started talking about chickens. They told me they were going to buy hens that are already laying, and also chicks. I asked them if they have a brooder/grow out pen to house the chicks in until they are big enough to join the flock. They said "Oh, we're going to put them all together". I said "The hens will kill the baby chicks", they said "You mean they won't just take them under their wing, mother them, and raise them for us?" I said "No they will kill them, you need to separate them".

....AT THIS TIME THEY PROMPTLY CHANGED THE SUBJECT!!!

I felt bad, I know they felt silly.......

tell em its more exciting to get that first egg from your first chicks. Lots of a wait and buildup for it.
