We have some really smart wild turkeys over near us, too.
My brother was driving into town (6 miles away) for some groceries, and traffic on the highway was backed up at least a quarter mile. Turns out that a tractor trailer of corn had taken too sharp of a turn and spilled probably a good 10 pounds onto the road and shoulder. Several toms had started pacing across the road and the city-slickers had stopped to "let them cross". Then the rest of the wild turkeys joined (30 or so) and started eating the spilled corn while the cars waited. They wouldn't drive throught the turkeys, though, because they thought the turkeys would be too dumb to move. Thankfully, the turkeys finished eating the corn pretty soon and traffic resumed. But yeah, I don't buy the whole birds are so dumb bit, but occasionally I've wondered about some people...
