Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I have never had Duck eggs but my husband said they are so good! I told him I am willing to try them. So we are getting ducks next spring. I have decided to seperate them though instead of letting them sleep in with the chickens only because Lewis is very protective and I dont need them fighting. They can roam the yard together. A customer of mine from work offered me a peacock. I know nothing about them. So I am not sure I am up for that.

Where we lived in southern California there were peacocks wandering wild in the adjoining town of Rancho Palos Verdes, where they are protected by law so nobody could harm them. They are incredibly beautiful birds but also incredibly LOUD and messy birds and in most cases, their cries are eerily similar to a woman screaming. Quite unnerving to hear that for the first time until someone tells you it's the peacocks. I would much prefer to have a flock of guineas than peacocks. They are loud also, but not in the same way.

I wondered about this myself because its not like dogs or cats ..so fast I read the roo jumps on the hen and a liquid sqeezes out of his vent by her vent...no penetration . and thats how they mate. No wonder some roos are mean! u
Tonight from my lovely 47 yr old wife who is a nurse and part time country girl, She calls me at work , and I was kinda busy 'so yes baby what do you need", Her reply, Do chickens have sex?
gig.gif
Me literally rolling in the floor I was laughing so hard, "yes dear how did you think they fertilize the egg"?
jumpy.gif
her, then if not, "Well your rooster is raping one of the hens then".
D.gif
Now I am laughing so I hard I can't help myself
ya.gif
, I said which rooster is it ? she replies, Oreo the barred rock, about the same time he lets out a super load crow in the background, I said well did ya let him finish?

I have not laughed so hard in weeks its gonna take a long time for that one to wear off after her sister and our friends get done with it.

I've never ate duck meat but I have had duck eggs. Very very rich compared to chicken eggs. So much so my digestive tract wasn't too fond of them the first time around. lol They were delicious though.

At the store i justify by saying its"Meat" I dont associate it to my chickens or the neighbors cows. Now if i killed Charlie the roo to eat might feel differently. .If i did think about it a lot Id be a vegetarian and i do like my bacon club sanwich!
Maybe I am strange but after owning my chickens I cant bring myself to eat chicken. I look at chicken at the store and see my meep, cleo, or my others and I just get mad. Lol I know its part of life and it sounds crazy but This is why I dont own a cow or other animals. Lol

IMO, duck and goose should be cooked more as if they were pork than as if they were chicken or turkey.

You have to score the skin to allow the fat to drain and cook the roasted duck or goose low and slow up on a rack so that its not sitting in the grease. I like a sauerkraut stuffing -- Kraut, onions, caraway seed, and some raw cabbage to cut the acidity.

mine must be weird then the only time mine ever do anything is breeding season and the occasional squack and are probably the cleanest birds on the place. and also no roxannemc you don't need a pair we have five peahens and two peacocks and all the hens lay fertile eggs
