Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Where we lived in southern California there were peacocks wandering wild in the adjoining town of Rancho Palos Verdes, where they are protected by law so nobody could harm them. They are incredibly beautiful birds but also incredibly LOUD and messy birds and in most cases, their cries are eerily similar to a woman screaming. Quite unnerving to hear that for the first time until someone tells you it's the peacocks. I would much prefer to have a flock of guineas than peacocks. They are loud also, but not in the same way.
Yeah that reminds me of the peacocks my uncle used to raise. All I ever saw were the full grown males strutting around displaying their feathers and that awful howl they make for a call. One time my cousin and I were squirrel hunting in the woods behind the farm, we killed us a couple of squirrels and two pheasants. We got back up to the house, it was quite a long walk, my uncle comes out on the back porch and says, "You boys get any", " Yes sir" we proudly showed him the two squirrels and two pheasants. He busted out laughing

, I said whats so funny? He says, "Them ain't no pheasants they're two of your aunt's peafowl hens, you dumbazzs don't know pheasants don't live in Georgia?

That's better than the idiot duck hunter at a duck club near where I used to live in Californiawho was proudly displaying the "goose" he had shot. It was a pelican. By the way, you cook peafowl like pheasant so you weren't too far off.

At the store i justify by saying its"Meat" I dont associate it to my chickens or the neighbors cows. Now if i killed Charlie the roo to eat might feel differently. .If i did think about it a lot Id be a vegetarian and i do like my bacon club sanwich!

I have a couple chickens that are just pets. They will die of old age and get buried.

I have no objections to eating chicken, and have eaten some of our birds. We don't get add a lot at a time so we don't get many that need removed. I had and issue with the slaughter, but have a method now that works very well for me.

We need to eat more breeds and species of animals. It's good for us and it's really the only way to save them. So many breeds go extinct because they aren't "THE" commercial breed to be raising because they don't grow as fast, or produce enough. The heritage breeds need people to breed them and keep them alive. That means extra animals that shouldn't be used for breeding because they would detract from the quality and soundness of the breed. So we eat the extras. If we can get more people to eat them, then there is some demand for them as meat and more people will raise them and ensure the breed doesn't go extinct.

I was at the County Fair here and was talking to the lady doing spinning demos. I'd told her I wanted to get Jacob sheep and she told me that I didn't want those because they weren't as nice as the improved common breeds that are raised commercially. I want the Jacobs because they need people to raise them and keep their unique gene pool alive, and I like the looks of them. I got Ameraucanas because I like them. We will eventually try and get heritage light Brahmas.

Our chickens were bought originally just for eggs, but they soon became our favorite pets. They don't usually get up to anything, they keep the bug population down, and they're cuddly. And, I certainly can't forget that they pay rent in eggs. We definitely wouldn't be able to eat any of them, because I'd probably cry if I had to kill one, but we still eat chicken almost every other day. It's our favorite meat. Maybe it's just that it's hard to associate that with our girls (and boy) because we raised them, who knows.

I had to cull down our muscovy duck population. There were birds of unknown age amongst the flock.

I turned them into duck sausage. They were delicious.
I've never had duck but I love sausage. I have a coworker who raises and sells ducks. Maybe I can talk him into making me some duck sausage....

So I sell some fertilized eggs, after about a month the lady calls and says -- I send her bad eggs, not even one hatched -- So I ask about her breeding machine, -- What breeding machine she says ? --

She left the eggs on the shelf for 21 days and when they didn't hatch she waited a bit longer and then called me !!
