Chickens also help to get rid of slugs, snails, black widows, june bugs and potato bugs. Have not seen one since weve had chickens, then again ive not seen one flower in my garden either..... Hmmmmmmmm
One of the reasons we got chickens last spring was to cut down our snail and slug population... As of yet, they won't touch them!!!

On the 'reality' TV show Survivor...
.....they got some hens and a rooster, had the 'not sure how eggs happen - what's the rooster for' discussion...
...... then they ate one of the hens.

That "Beauty" tribe won't SURVIVE very long, at that rate... lets see how many hens they butcher before they wonder why they arent getting any eggs!

that's because you need ducks for snails

Please don't tell me that... my poor husband is a contractor. I don't think he would survive my demand for a "duck coop" now. We have already discussed keeping a few turkeys next year! I am already figuring that I would have to build the turkey house, just based on the look on his face!

chickens aren't great with slugs, they prefer the insects you want to have around like worms. Ducks however will go mad for some slugs and snails

I was at the farm supply store the other day and they had Australorps marked as barred rocks, so I told them they were mislabeled and they said they'd fix it. Sure enough, the next time I came in, they had barred rocks marked as Australorps.

The worst part was when I pointed it out to the employee she insisted they were actually Australorps, and that they had come in labeled that and that no matter how much they looked like barred rocks they were not barred rocks at all. My husband told me later that he thought I was about to have it out with her.

Then she attacked me with hand sanitizer even though I told her I was allergic to the perfume in it.

Yes, I know you should wash your hands after handling chicks, but I will use soap and water, thanks, and I'll do it when I'm actually done handling the chicks!

But I got out of there with a new EE roo, three black sexlinks and a new banty cochin, so it was still worth the trip.

we have a friend next door with 2 ducks and some chicks. they ducks each lay 1 a day. so they have a lot of eggs. so some people are living with them and she goes and BUYS STORE BOUGHT EGGS!!! my friend said why would you go and buy eggs if we have better eggs. she says they came out of a ducks butt. my friend says well then you dont want to know where those eggs came from
