Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

The aunts she spends time with (my aunts, her great aunts) are all vegan, so I think that's where she gets the attitude from. Though I'm not entirely sure if they're vegan due to health reasons or something else.

I just like knowing where my food comes from. It surprises me constantly how out of touch people are with where and what their food is. We grow our own guavas, tomatoes, chiles, limes/lemons, avocados, oranges and peaches - so it's just a quick stroll outside to pluck whatever we want but some people who visit refuse to go outside and pluck it right from the branch or turn their noses up at our eggs.

/sigh

LMAO does not surprise me how out of touch most people are. I love when I get the be normal and go to the grocery store. I showed one person when we had chickens years ago the difference in the eggs. He was shocked and tells me all the time he misses the fresh eggs. He also can now taste the difference in the eggs. I have had others tell me that buying from the grocery store is so much easier and convenient. I did point out it wasn't so convenient when she went to the store and found they were out of just about everything when the snowstorm was headed her way.......

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Vegans or Vegetarians for that matter. I have known several Vegans and found them to be pretty open minded. The militant ones were told to take a hike. I had one friend who watched my children and was vegan. She would cook them food with meat in it. She made no judgment on what I ate or fed my kids, but she also was the one to let them try her meal when she babysat. She also understood my soy allergy made a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle impossible.

The first time I processed some roosters for freezer camp, I was scared to death a peta truck was going to pull into my yard! At the time we lived on a major highway and the only place I had to do it was the front yard!

That being said, when I told some people about it, (my step daughter) she said "how could you be so cruel? " I told her, "you eat KFC, how do you think those things get cooked? Jump in the pot? " she said. "Well, that's. Different. "

We do it out in the driveway and we live on a Country Road..... Luckily it is closed to all but two axle vehicles due to the spring thaw.....

I know the feeling! I killed some roosters to go to freezer camp near our pens, but since moving the only place I could clean and gut them was on the front driveway in the middle of town! I got a lot of funny looks, but I atleast tried to keep the goryness hidden anytime I noticed a child walking by. I would love to let them learn, but definitely not without THEIR parent starting that conversation. I did get one dad who asked if his kids could see me clean one and pet the dead ones. As a bonus though, I did get quite a few people interested in purchasing a chicken the next time I get some meaties raised up.

Quote: Some people can't do the deed themselves. I am one of them, but luckily my DH can and does. At least you have a few who at least are not judging you when you do it.

As a kid I had to walk past a house where the guy cleaned deer in the front yard. I handled it better than if I had to watch the deer die.

My grandfather lied to me and told me that fish loved to be caught and eaten. Yes, i was a gullible kid.
