why should that be so far fetched? Plenty of animals fertilize after eggs are laid, to my knowledge it's mostly aquatic animals but I certainly don't know all the animals that work that way.I don't understand that. Hard shell and all. Lol

As to the hard shells, they are still permeable. Doesn't seem far fetched to me.
