I wonder if it was an offshoot (new cane) from the root stock, giving you THAT rose. I buy my roses from www.heirloomroses.com because they are own root roses ... no grafting. They are really healthy plants, much more so than grafted ones IMO. Give them a look-see.

I will, thank you. I haven't bought any roses for several years. This particular one was a completely different color, a two tone with a raspberry type frangrance, the grafted rose. After it died we had to do some foundation work and my entire front yard was dug up. Since it was dead I told the hubby to throw it over the hill but instead he planted it somewhere just in case. Lol It began growing from the roots.
Well, now I have a nice dark pink rose with strong rose fragrance growing. It goes nuts and I have to keep it pruned.
I will look at them and David Austen roses. I love the big old English type :) but with the cost per plant I haven't started collecting them yet.
 
Well, they are descendents of dinosaurs, i guess. LOL
