Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I've raised chickens for over 30 yrs. My daughter refused to eat the meat because she 'knew' that chicken. I never named any, other than a few banties. I NEVER wash my eggs unless they are dirty. They come out of the chicken with a naturally protective film on them. My customers like that. I had to explain why to a few people. They are appreciative that they are getting REALLY natural eggs. Some friends ask why I go to the expense of feeding my chickens organic feed plus other food that is not organic but non-GMO. And some want to know why on earth I feed alfalfa every day. I live in the desert where the chickens can't be free range and eat greens so I do the next best thing--the best quality alfalfa I can find--and GUARANTEED no GMOs. The junk food friends just don't seem to get it, but my customers do!

And, fortunately, natural selection continues on ....

But had no idea they'd turn such a pretty green if they're moldy. ;-) haha I wonder what people will say about my olive eggs?
"Are they... did you paint those? O.O "

Didn't you traditionally have 12 kids out of which 4 made it to adulthood? I'm not saying chickens were the cause, but still.

Before the days of vaccine and penicillin, yes, many did not make it to adulthood. But, urban people had the same infant mortality problems. It wasn't specific to people who lived on farms and/or had chickens.

Anyway, I think you missed the point which was that our farming forefathers didn't seem to have that problem. If they had, I think we would have heard about it.

HEADLINE: Read all about it!

"Agrarians Migrate to Cities En Masse Due to Chicken Diseases Spread to Their Unborn Children".

Moral: People just need to stop and think a minute before engaging their mouths and repeating something "a friend" told them. Someone once wrote a fable about that very thing. It was called "Chicken Little".

That is just silly!

Cat boxes can cause problems but not chickens!

I would not give them any eggs ever. NO EGGS FOR YOU!

Right!

Or, TELL them you complied.
No, I got the point, just saying it's maybe not the best example

Telling them keeps the peace too, yeah.

Do you really want to trust that doc to not be a total city slicker and recommend that you disinfect at your mom's house??

Hmm. Not really. I'm not sure I even want to go at this point. My owning chickens has been a point of contention with some family members for a while and I'm wondering if my sister is just being a control freak or passive aggressive at this point. I'd rather hang out with my chickens.

Really almost any animal that spends time outside can be a carrier of a number of diseases that could be dangerous to unborn children and individuals with suppressed immune systems.

Well, my sister has cats and dogs that spend time outside, and so does my niece. I don't think they are worried about the fact that the chickens are outside, but think that chickens are dirty or disease carrying just because they are chickens.

You're probably right!! Lol Update to come later...

So, is that why our farmer ancestors had so many healthy children?

Right! My granddad was one of 12 children who were all raised on a farm. They all lived and were healthy children.

I think sometimes people just get too paranoid about things. I'm not going to engage in a debate with family members over my chickens, but neither will I be forced to act like they are filthy and I have to be disinfected before going out into "polite society". lol!
