I looked at the photo before reading the commentary. In fact i enlarged it to get a good look at the beautiful rooster. I'm envious wish i had one that looked that proud.

The airhead who made that snide Facebook comment doesn't have a clue.
Right! And there is no Standard for EEs so it was completely pointless.

I have a small maple tree that was being attacked by caterpillars. Before my husband got to the tree with the spray, I went out there with a pair of tweezers and picked off as many as I could find to give to my (at the time) 2 week old chicks. I mentioned it to a friend of mine that the chicks were unsure at first but it didn't take them long to figure out what they were for. She looked a tad grossed out when she said, "Won't that end up in the eggs?" She wasn't to thrilled about my answer to that either.

Thanks guys! :) Not to worry, her comment didn't hurt my feelings in the least, I was just amazed by how arrogant and presumptuous her comment was.

Gryff is great. We love him to pieces, though he doesn't know how he feels about us. He wants to trust us, but he has been a little nervous around us ever since we processed some of our extra roosters back in March. I keep telling him he's not on the menu, but he's like "Yeah, sure, I bet that's what you told the others, too!"

No wonder he's a little leery. I would be too!

Ummmmm. Is she aware of what humans around the world eat: snails, snakes, grubs, catepillars, and so on? Do they come out in the babies? Some people think eggs are like chicken excrement, a product of the digestive system rather than the reproductive system. Must've been star biology students.

I got a comment--sadly, from a member of this community--that left me shaking my head.

BYC recently used one of my photos for a headline, and it was posted on their FB page as well. This is the photo in question:

One woman commented on Facebook, "Roo has the worst squirrel tail I have ever seen. That one is a cull."

The amount of presumption in her comment nearly made my head spin. She was trying to sound smart by pointing out that the rooster has a physical trait that isn't desirable in certain breeds of chicken. However, since the rooster is a mutt to begin with, "Squirrel Tail" is irrelevant. It doesn't affect his health or behavior, so why would we cull for it? Gryffindor is the best rooster we've ever had (and we have had a lot of them!) He watches over the flock, protects his girls, breaks up fights between other roosters, and alerts his flock mates to food and potential threats. His offspring are some of the sweetest, prettiest, and healthiest mutts around. Not only will I not be culling this rooster, I'll be keeping him for the duration of his natural life.

Besides, my entire family is in consensus that his "squirrel tail" is magnificent. WE happen to like it, thank you very much! (*end indignant rant*)

I love him as well, he's beautiful!
