Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I have also had chicken buyers call me up and ask me if I clean chicken houses......... because they just don't have the "stomach to do it" themselves. I give them the number of a friend that uses the manure on his garden.

Geez, if we were like that here we'd be drowning in poo by now. How can anyone go into chickens without realizing there's going to be muck? Pull up your big-kid britches and get to it!

Who simply looses interest in chickens? They aren't even very hard to take care of.
A teenager who is attended college while in high school and also is in sports. She loved it until her life got overwhelmingly complicated. She enjoys them, but I take care of them. I was simplifying it by saying "lost interest" in them, but she loves seeing and eating the eggs that they produce, and she does like to take her banty hen into the house to sit with her while doing homework.

$10 bucks say teenager... Younger teenager. Or am I just cynical?
Almost 17, and super busy because she attends college while in high school and also plays sports. I said lost interest to simplify it, but really, her life just got to complicated. She still gets to enjoy them, but mommy takes care of them...like mommy's always end up doing with any pet!

Thankfully, i love these pets. The little smart butt teenager actually said to me "you should thank me for introducing you to your new hobby mom"

What kind of bantam is she? I would love tiny pink eggs.
B.B. Red Old English Game Bantam

We got her from Murry McMurray hatchery. They are suppose to lay white eggs, but she lays pastel pink eggs. They are ADORABLE!!!! I plan on getting a few more in the spring. I love to eat those tiny eggs!

In your daughter's defense.......

My reply involved ADULTS!

To make the story even more unbelievable, the owners with the frozen water problem came back in the spring and wanted to know if they could have their chickens back!

Imagine their horror when I told them I butchered and ate the hens. (Because of biosecurity issues.) After going back home, they called me again to see if they could buy more hens!

Sorry minnehaha I should have kept that thought to myself. Your daughter is doing a heck of a lot more than I ever did at 16. Also like I said a few post back I got my flock from a 30 something that " lost interest " so it was a cynical statement. Yes I'm a semi accidental owner, lol. But I keep expanding the flock because I like the work oddly enough. Any who of to shovel poo!

And those are ADULTS! Holy cow, people are unbelievable! Animal shelters exist because of pet and livestock owners like them!

No offense taken, you didn't have all the facts. And I am actually cynical too because i know that any animal my family fancies will be my responsibility eventually because I am a stay at home mom. And my daughter is doing so much more than I ever dreamed of in high school it's crazy, she has a full plate!

You know, the girl had just 6 pullets and 3 ducks when we she started. Like you, I have expanded the flock to the astronomical level it is today. And i have 2 broodies with Cream Legbar chicks and an incubator full of Cream Legbar eggs.....I believe i may be obsessed!
