The dumbest thing I get is "Don't you need a rooster for your chickens to lay eggs?"

Then a conversation I have a lot. "so girls are called chickens and boys are roosters?" Me: "No. Chicken is the species. A hen is a laying female. A rooster is a mature male." Them: "ok. Is that chicken there a hen or rooster?" Me: "thats a pullet." Them: "what's that?" Me:

Then I hate when people say "It's just a chicken" as your crying over the loss of a chick. That makes me soooooo mad!!!

You have to love it when ever you post a picture of turkeys, chickens or goats ect.. They first thing people say is food and we should eat them... Blah blah blah. I always put it out there "sure but you have to kill and clean them" and then they look at me like I'm crazy. Every time we at close the thanksgiving and Xmas they alway come after turkeys.

Not dumb, really, just plain refreshing: I went to grand parent's day at my GD school. I grabbed a dozen eggs, and handed them to the teacher when I met her. Oh my goodness! She lit up like the sun, and cradled those eggs like I'd just given her the greatest gift. She scurried down the hall and put them in the staff refrigerator. When she came back, she explained that she grew up on a farm, and hadn't had fresh eggs since her dad passed away!

Now, THOSE are the kind of people I like giving eggs to; appreciative!

It also makes me wonder what some people must think when they hear the expression "Farm fresh eggs" as a desirable thing, but they want "Store bought eggs". Maybe they're thinking of it the same way some people look down their noses at home-made clothes? My mother always considered those to be "less than" and wanted the "good stuff" you purchased in a nice ladies clothing store.

This was posted to Passive Aggressive Notes. Is it really true? (Anyway, a Big Mac is full of a lot of other crud, so it's not an apt comparison)

This is a classic example of people being brainwashed (by corporate food marketers) to break foods down into their component parts, and ignoring the whole food. They determine their diets this way, which is not optimal. Read Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food to learn much more about it. Aim to eat a healthy diet which contains all of the essential nutrients. Cholesterol is one of them. Moderation is the key.

Another quote from the Wikipedia article about Cholesterol:

Cholesterol, from the Ancient Greek chole- (bile) and stereos (solid) followed by the chemical suffix -ol for an alcohol, is an organic molecule. It is a sterol (or modifiedsteroid),[3] a lipid molecule and is biosynthesized by all animal cells because it is an essential structural component of animal cell membranes that is required to maintain both membrane structural integrity and fluidity. Cholesterol enables animal cells to (a) not need a cell wall (like plants & bacteria) to protect membrane integrity/cell-viability and thus be able to (b) change shape and (c) move about (unlike bacteria and plant cells which are restricted by their cell walls).

Quote: I saw water melons, straight from the supplier in a store that said "cholesterol free" since when did anything but meat (or animal derived products) have cholesterol

I have a jar of Peanut butter that says gluten free and a box of gram crackers that has cholesterol free and apples that have sucrose free stickers.
