I went to a show in Feb just this year. And there was a Modern Game cock with a egg in his pen, there was no pullet/hen in there earlier either

I was at a livestock auction this past Wednesday, and there were TWO pens of cockerels with eggs in the pen. And several pens of cockerels and one pen of aged hens labeled "pullets." People are despicable.

"Why would you want to have chickens? How are you ever going to afford to feed them."

Than there are those people who think yard raised chickens are more diseased somehow. And that the box raised, no beak variety lay healthier, "safe" eggs. To those people, I would say, go buy your Frankenstein eggs. Stupid sheep.

Chicken power!
Amen!
I think some people can't eat fresh food raised in the backyard because real nutrition might kill them or at least make them healthy.

When people come over and see for the first time that I have a golden Lab running loose in the backyard with the chickens, they always ask "Is it safe. You know since she is a bird dog and all?"
My reply to that is "sure the dog can usually out run the chickens and has a doggy dog to the back room of the house in case she is cornered".
With a "WHAT?!" look on their face I tell them to wait here and go to the house to get the chickens' favorite treat. Walk back outside, call them and then stand back.
And with a look of OMG now written on their face, they never question the safety of having my dog outside with the chickens. They do however now have a firm respect for wearing non-open toed shoes in my backyard too.

P.S. Binky is one of the sweeties dogs in the world and wouldn't hurt anyone or thing on purpose.

That they didn't want any of my lovely duck eggs casue they'd heard that duck eggs taste like mud.

Not true of sweet domestic duckies on a grain based (not snail and algae based) diet.
well sad cause our ducks would have to live off grass, and grains, but mostly grass (mixed in algea from the pond)

Must cheaper that way and I dont like eggs, LOL, but if i want to sell them.......

Standing outside a city-friend's home this evening talking about what we've been up to lately (and I'm practically choking on some ungodly wretched smell coming from the textile plant that is apparently dying fabric today) when I mention the 15 RIR chicks in my guest bathroom. "Doesn't your whole house smell like chicken poo?" she says. "Well, no." I say. "I clean the brooders regularly." She says, "I could never live with those nasty animals or that smell." I reply, a bit perturbed, "Really? As opposed to your whole TOWN smelling like poo everytime the mill is dying?" Thanks, but I'll take my country life and all my chickies to the ickyness of city life!
