Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

This reminds me of some TV show I saw sometime, where a Canary bird was registered as the owner of a company and was accused with tax evasion

I think it was on the Simpsons, but I can't remember for sure.

I had a silkie hen that grew a big comb and crowed. She'd lay about 4 or 5 eggs a year and wouldn't go broody. Rooster would try to mate her but she wouldn't squat. She had a growth on her ovary.

Thanks Felix!

I will look for it. The I visited some elderly in laws this weekend and they could not understand why anyone would want to raise chickens. They have never seen blue or green eggs either.

Sadly, my DW perpetuated the myth that eggs come out with poo on them. I tried to explain that it is a different system from the digestive and that a sphincter kept them two channels separate but I was talked down by the over 70 year old in laws....

It's a little late in their development to change their minds, at this point. Let 'em believe what they want. In fact, I work constantly on the theory that it just doesn't matter what others think, and wish for a mute button when people start to pontificate. I'm not recommending this approach when it comes to al qaeda or isis, but as long as it's harmless drivel, let it go in one ear and out the other ... and practice your best glazed look and passive smile.

And was it burned at the stake?

The Salem witches were hanged, not burned at the stake. A common misconception. But, 2 of the unfortunate souls are ancestors of mine, with a third an accuser, Mary Walcott. Margaret Scott was one victim, a widow woman who was hanged with the last group (September 22, 1692) before the elders thought better of the idea. Forgot who the other was.

My kids once remarked, "We always knew you were a witch". To which I replied, "So, what does that make you?"

Kids say funniest things!(even when they are adults....)

When my chickens first started laying my mom liked them, then a chicken hopped up in her lap and demanded to be pet like her pet parrot. Now their eggs 'taste funny' and she would rather have them from the store than from our 'pets'... She is still sulking because I ate 2 Roos that beat up the hens
