Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I just bought a bunch of 40 pound bags of Nutrena Nature Wise 16% pellets at 11.99. I buy 50 lb Purina Layena sometimes as well at 13.99. Both are vegetarian and say so on the bag. No animal product listed on the label.

I buy game bird feed as well and mix it with the pellets to raise their protein. That has animal products in it.

I tried Scratch & Peck which is gmo, corn, and soy free. It uses fish meal for protein. That ran me $27 bucks for 25 pounds. The birds wouldn't eat the fines well enough and didn't do well so it was back to regular feed.

here's a conversation....er, argument, I had with some one on another site:
Me: yeah, dogs love dog running until they are too old and ARE KILLED FOR NO REASON!!
also, the ASPCA has nothing to do with the vegan ads. I'm considering becoming vegetarian, because owning chickens really makes you think about how horrible it is to eat other animals. I wouldn't mind it if they at least were raised in sanitary conditions, not wire cadges filled with their own dung. ever heard of PUPPY MILLS, my friend? or FACTORY FARMING?

I respect people's personal decisions, but please do you research before you go around insulting groups that are trying to help people/animals.

Them: Dogs that run deer. We do not kill them when they get to old. We put hay in their pens and a warm lightbulb and then they slip away and we take them to a hunting dog cemetary behind our house and bury them. Also chickens don't care if they live in their own crap or not. Yes I am against puppy mills.

Me: you're an idiot if you think that chickens deserve less care and attention then any other animal. if your against puppy mills that leave puppys in cramped, hot crates filled with poop, then why aren't you against people doing that to chickens? they're both animals! They both can get sick and die, and they both have feelings. just wondering how you justify that.

Them:No offense I'm not saying I'm with it or against it. But really chickens don't mind. I say as long as an animal is fed and loved (which chickens are just dinner and usually will run away or attack you if you pet them) then its not cruelty. Cruelty. You'll know real cruelty when you see it yourself one day.
Me:No, they really do mind, and I would know, because I have 3 chickens who love being petted and are a lot more then just dinner to me. When one of my hens died, I spent the entire afternoon locked in my room crying. Chicken ARE ANIMALS TOO. you take care of your dogs, and I take care of my chickens. neither of them deserves to be locked up in a cage. Factory farmed chickens may be fed, just so they're fat enough to be a good meal, but they're certainly not loved.
Then I posted some really graphing pictures off factory farming and refused to reply to the rest of their posts.
This makes me sooooo mad!!! Stupidity is killing the world.

I am with you on this. We have people on another ongoing thread right now who think chickens do not feel pain. Infuriating. I think I'm gonna lose it, the next time I see people saying vivisection on chickens is okay because they don't suffer. Stupidity might not kill the world, but it sure results in a lot of animal suffering under the rule of selfish humans.

that's what I want to know. I see an occasional stupid post on here about people saying some stupid thing along the same lines but those posts and people are few and far between take for instance on person posted in order to get a cat to catch and kill mice they have to be hungry so you can't feed them too much. as I said stupid.......

Janinepeters, be quiet. You need to READ posts before you go broadcasting their topic elsewhere and vilifying people. I read your post and wanted to see what was going on in that thread. Vivisection is NOT what the people there are discussing. PA did NOTHING wrong. He/She was not experimenting on Rags the hen, he was not torturing her, he was trying to HELP save her LIFE. And by all accounts, he has done exactly that.
I've been reading your posts throughout this thread and others, and your opinions are nothing short of misguided, and selectively factual. So stop acting like a pretentious know it all. This post is for chicken people, to post funny and/or silly stories about the dumb things non chicken people have said or done. It's not your personal soap box. So let's all get back to the fun in here, and maybe you should go hug your chicken out there, if you actually own any.

I have a light hearted story...today we were out in the yard and just as we went to pick eggs the rooster decided to mount the hen directly in front of the door. I pretended not to notice as the kids tried to decide what was going on. After the deed was done my daughter comes back to me at a dead sprint ( or as close as you can get in snow pants) Mom that rooster needs a spankin he just bit the momma chicken in the head!! I was just happy there was no explanation asked for lol

That's awesome!

We just had to explain to our six-year-old why we have one Wyandotte who is missing all the feathers on her back. We just told him that the rooster jumps on top of the chickens to fertilize eggs, because eggs can't grow into chicks unless there is some genetic material from the hen and some from the rooster. And that our Columbian Wyandotte must be a very special hen, because all of our roosters want to make chicks with her.

He was totally cool, accepted the explanation, no more questions. Me? Not nearly so cool.
