ive lived in the country, ive lived in the city; ive lived close to the ocean, and now I live in a "crack". I didn't like the ocean b/c of hurricanes. when I was younger I hated the country because "there is nothing to do." but the city, that's like the worst place ever for me. I like to talk to people, and meet people; when I drive I like to check out scenery as I go. I prefer the smell of fresh cut grass and "farming smells" over the smell of exhaust and asphalt. the people in the city are usually to worried about whats going on around them, and not their own lives. i understand the need to solve certain problems, abuse, drug dealing etc., but i never felt like i should have to mow my yard just because my neighbor did.

another thing that bothers me about "city people" most of the ones who are so quick to complain about what their neighbors are doing, are the ones who disrespect their neighbors the most. meaning they will call the law over your sterio, but they crank theirs all the time. their dog will crap in your yard, but don't let your dog crap in theirs.
I agree... it's a Pharisean world. Hypocritical political correctness runs rampant. The Bible (and thus, the Lord) says that as we enter the end times of the Church Age, that this would be the case. Don't judge your neighbor over the speck in his eye before you remove the plank out of your own eye.

do you ever feel like the movie "idiocracy" is coming true?
Read the book. Its called Marching Morons. Its a lot better than the movie and more pointed. The ending is more 'creative' but definitely not politically correct! Actually the book is not politically correct from the get go. If you liked the movie I really think you will like the book even better.

To Kodster and loveourbirds....Seems like both of you have a pretty good understanding of the human race.....The way it GENERALLY operates now and in the long ago days when Jesus walked the earth....But there are so many good, decent, caring exceptions that us humans are a pretty good bunch overall...Some common normal person once told me that even the worst person was decent and good 90% of the time.....The nasty, self-centered neighbor who runs your kids out of his yard and throws rocks at your dog brings you a generator when an ice storm hits..Take Care and God Bless...

there are good people on the world, I didn't mean it that way. im also not meaning that everyone is "dumb". the original post about "idiocracy" was referring to how we have forgotten about where our food comes from.

the other post about city people wasn't meant to be nasty towards anyone. just an observation I had made when I lived in Columbus and Waterville Ohio. where I live at now, my neighbors are usually great people, of course this is my family's home farm, im related to half of them

. I do have an uncle down the road who complains about everyone else - he has that "better than everyone" attitude. a few years ago we had a heavy snow, he cleaned everyone's driveway and wouldn't take any money. so your post about worst people being decent 90% of the time has some truth to it.

i guess i just mean that people are to quick to criticize (maybe even myself sometimes). everyone is to fast to judge the people around them, not realizing how silly it makes them look. but even in the city, if you have a dog that barks; don't criticize my chickens. we all need to get along better, we all need to learn to work together again. we've worked so hard at being independent its made us all grouchy and unforgiving. I've seen whole families who don't talk over the stupidest things. i cant word this right, but i hope you understand; i don't want to be that guy who didn't talk to a family member, then lived to regret it when it became to late.

edited to add: i was kind of embarrassed when i realized that "idiocracy" comment made the top 10 posts.

I agree, loveourbirds... people ARE too quick to criticize, and that's why I'm like you... I live in a very small, rural town, and I am very happy here, because I'm away from those PC-oriented people who are too concerned about having everyone be like them, and live like they do, instead of accepting each and every individual as they are, accepting the individual's talents and abilities as something that benefits the entire team, instead of being a lemming, and resenting them.

for the people in here who have seen "the village" (m. knight shymalan) or something like that. has anyone else thought of forming one of these villages?

i admit im a recluse, i hate large crowds and cities. if i had my choice i would live in the middle of a couple hundred acres with no driveway. i don't want this to be confused with me hating people all together, that's not what i mean. it just seems to me like when there is a crowd of people, the average IQ drops to about 10 points lower than the lowest IQ in the crowd. you would think that a crowd would be smarter, but most of the time its just the opposite.

i would love to see a place where everyone works at their talent, and are happy doing it. a place where everyone can work together and accomplish a larger goal. something like the original ideas of the Amish and Mennonite cultures. im not saying you need to do without electricity and phone. but maybe not rely so much on technology.

as far as me and religion, i am a God fearing man. i was brought up in a southern Baptist house. not saying that southern Baptist is the correct religion, i really don't know what one is right. but it was a strict household where we didn't judge, we helped our neighbors. if someone done something that hurt us, we prayed for them (similar to Quaker religion). i still follow the Bible, read it fairly often, maybe not as much as i should. here is where i have a problem with religion; i have another uncle who is a preacher, he and his wife told me that i was going to hell because i registered to vote democrat. the same aunt and uncle are the fastest people to judge others. i myself try not to judge, and to be generous; but i do have my moments.

To loveourbirds.....I didn't take your words to be mean, negative, or anything like that at all...You spoke bluntly and truthfully from the heart...That earns my respect totally....Ever since the Industrial Revolution began humans have been agonizing over the best balance between what we give to the community and what we reserve for ourselves. Before modern, anonymous social arrangements developed we were forced by tradition and necessity to live interconnected lives with our family and immediate community....We no longer "know" everyone we interact with and, consequently, feel less obligated to consider their interests as our own....William Wordsworth said it well: "Getting and spending we lay waste our powers."....God Bless and keep up the good life....

That is where you know they are not religious, just judgmental. I am Catholic and most tend to be Democratic. Either way does not matter to me as long as one is willing to help those in need and those in need are willing to pay it back. Can not stand anyone taking advantage of a situation and that seems to be what is really happening. Everyone wants what someone else has. I will never be "rich" with money because I am not willing to do what that takes. At the same time, I will never fault anyone for having a TON of money because they worked for it and I did not. My priorities are different. So good for them and good for me
