Quote: according to the vet she wasnt as bad as she looked. he did say if it was a concern after 3 days we could use the replacement milk- but he recommended goat milk. if you feed it earlier than 3 days the puppies dont get the colstrum (spelling) that they need. she has filled out some, and is at a respectable weight for a nursing mother now, im sorry i still havent gotten any pictures. i need to get the camera out for the puppies and for some chickens im parting with.

i can say the puppies are growing like little weeds.

also i didnt give credit where credit was due, whoever recommended the kidney fat is where i got the idea. the vet just said it was a good idea.

Getting back to silliness, I have been talking to my mom and dad about chickens and egg color genetics. My mom asked me a few days ago if a rooster had any influence o egg color. It took me a while to realize she meant the hen's eggs, not the resulting chick.
i dont understand these genetics totally, but yes a rooster can influence egg color in his offspring. for instance a marans rooster bred to an easter egger who lays blue eggs will yield a green egg laying pullet.

i wish i wouldnt have sold my EE's i had selected them for dark blue egg color, now i cant find any blue eggs to match them.

After any dogs has puppies they look like they are starving, let alone that many!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are doing a great job! She looked happy in the first pic you posted, I would not worry to much! You have the experience to back up your gut feeling!!! Wish you lived closer I would get one in a heart beat!

He does effect the color the offspring lays. I read the question as does he effect the color the mother lays. In that case he does not.

That's how I read it, too. I was wishing it were true so I could get black eggs from my black rooster.

That would be amazing!

Thanks for the laugh today!

My Dad believes that fertile eggs taste better. (Well, all fresh yard eggs actually taste the same wether a rooster is around or not.)

Now I do have a friend that won't eat her chicken's eggs simply because of the strange eating habit they have developed. Her chickens clean up after her goat. The goat poops and the chickens eat the poop.

Her chickens will even peck the poor goats butt to get more poop.

So she gives her eggs away to others.
That is disgusting!
