Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Same here. I raise the chickens on my own. Nobody else in the family has much interest in them (they do love the eggs though)!!! I try to get my parents to buy organic foods and foods labeled "non-GMO". Though they tell me that they don't care about wether it's organic or not, I notice all the time how we are slowly having an increase in the amount organic food we have in the house. I think I'm finally getting through to them! I think hat the most detrimental factor to buying organic food to them is the increase in price compared to other foods. I think it's worth it though when I comes to the health of our family.

It takes time to change minds and some people never change. You are very lucky to have family that is willing to attempt change for their health. Of course, I'm kinda the weirdo in my family, haha! I love the idea of having a garden that will, essentially, be sustainable and will allow us to not have to go grocery shopping. If I were to grow enough, I'd be able to trade produce for meat or other goods. That being said, I'm sure eventually my family will see the difference in the way they feel.

Mom is always complaining about pain or sugars being too high. I think if we could give her a balanced diet, a lot would change for her. I know I feel better when I'm eating loads of veggies and drinking lots of water. I've already lost weight! It's great and I really hope they choose to share this feeling with me.

I'm Definitely the weirdo in my family too. And I'm the weirdo out of my friends too. None of them know what is in some of the food they're eating, and frankly they don't care. Some people don't and just never will. I don't try to talk to them about it because not only would they have to really care, they would have to make their parents care too. I try to inform my family as much as possible. I show my mom articles on GMOs and organic foods all the time in an attempt to get her to really care. I also try to get everyone in to gardening and raising chickens and caring about producing their own food. It's a slow- moving battle, but it IS moving. Because of where we live, I wouldn't be able to trade goods, but I would definitely like to be able to. Eating home-made and home-grown food makes me feel way better too. Just like the earlier mac&cheese discussion we had, not only is home-made better for you and tastes better, I feel good after eating it. Every time my mom makes tacos, burritos, and nachos, I always feel horrible after eating it. We use waaayyyy to much store bought stuff when we eat those things. Canned refried beans, insta-rice, canned tomatoes, etc., just doesn't sit well in my stomach. I like fresh and organic. And good luck with convincing your family to eat healthier too! :D

So, all those poor souls who think any home byc egg has a baby in it...... they obviously have never heard of balut.

Google it

Warning; it is a graphic food item.

Oh Lord, many years ago when I was aircrew aboard a Navy VIP aircraft, our steward brought a crate of balut on board. I told him if even one broke, I would never forgive him. Thankfully, they arrived unbroken.

Do a google search for recipes. I make my own tortillas. Flour and corn. They aren't hard to make. If I were at home i'd give you the recipe. Cook a pound of pinto beans & put them in the freezer. When you're ready, you can make delicious beans. Buy a $20 rice cooker and your mom will never buy instant rice again. I'll have to come on later & post the recipe I use for spanish rice. Soooo good!

Sometimes I forget that other people don't make their own tortillas or rice/beans, haha! Though I most protest, perfect flour tortillas are hard to master! But then again, maybe I'm just a bit traditional in my tastes. It's because I'm Hispanic, living 25 minutes from the border. If I were to eat beans from a can, I'd absolutely hate it! In fact, refried beans don't even need to be refried. Just slow-cooking pinto beans and cooking them again on a hot stove (with only a tiny touch of olive oil) will dry out the beans and give them that same "refried" taste without the grease. Mmm, beans and spanish rice....gonna make some tonight, haha!

Rice cookers are great appliances. Make soup in them too

I asked why I have a rooster...cause I wanted one well she proceded with well I would eat those eggs they are fertilized and that is just gross. They will have blood and baby chicks in them. I wouldn't eat them. Well good cause I wasn't gonna give you any anyway! This is from a very educated woman...Book smart isn't as good as good old down on the farm knowledge!

I remember a joke where a city slicker was trying to make fun of a farm boy in a Q and A form and the boy kept giving him appropriate but unusual answers and the man getting frustrated he couldn't make fun of him stated "son you aren't far from a fool are you?" the boy replied, nope there's just a road ditch between us.

Haha so last night after we finished discussing how nasty ( or delicious to some people) boxed mac&cheese is, I sat down for dinner and there right in front of me was a huge pot of that mac&cheese. I couldn't help but laughing and everyone stared at me like I was insane. I didn't eat it of course. ;)
