Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

My mother-in-law said something similar to me when I first got my chickens. Mine lay different colors of eggs and I asked her if she wanted some and she said "no, I can only eat store bought eggs because they are clean". I said I will clean them, that isn't a problem, but still her answer was no. Now 4 years later, she gets eggs from her cousin that lives like a state away and she is always talking about how good they are and all the pretty colors.

I too plan to add banty eggs with family's with small children or my MIL will get them, she waiting for them.I have more people at work and family waiting for Aug. I had 10 layers but 6 were nasty pecking wenches nothing stopped them. so now 4 and 22(?) will start in Aug.My coop is 8'x12' and the run is 16'x14' for now anyhow. lolol. I hope to add a larger second coop and bigger chickens.

Is there a farmers' market near to you where you could sell some? Or, if there aren't enough eggs to bother with that, how about putting a "Fresh GMO Free Eggs" sign in your driveway? Only those who are interested will bother to stop. You can also post a small sign on a community/church bulletin board. I don't waste my beautiful, and expensive, eggs on those who don't appreciate them. Only those who appreciate their value need apply.

We live in a very isolated area, way out in the boonies (which I love), but I can see posting a Free Egg sign in places that might attract people who are in the frame of mind to accept. I never mind giving eggs back to my chickens and the ravens that help keep hawks away, but we have way more to spare than they can eat.

Thanks very much for the tips!

A lady asked me if the blue or green eggs tasted any different. I pinched the skin on my arm and said, "No. It's no different than skin color ... it's all the same inside". She was satisfied with the answer and appreciated adding to her fund of general knowledge. I respected her for asking the question and listening to the answer with an open mind. She's been put on my "It's ok for her to have my eggs" list.

That's a beautiful way to look at it, glad to know that people are willing to be open minded, it gives me hope. :)

OMG, I was telling a lady at work the other day that I'll be getting chickens this summer and plan to have lots and lots of eggs. I told her I'd bring some in for her so that she can taste how much better they are.

Know what she said?

Her: "Oh my GAWD, eeeeeewwwwww, I could never eat those eggs!"

Me: "Ummmm, why not?

Her: "Well, BECAUSE, they came out of a chicken's butt!"

Me: "Ummmmm. Huh? You eat eggs from the store, right?"

Her: "Well, yeah, of COURSE, but that's different!"

Me: "How is that different? Those eggs also came out of a chicken."

Her: "But those are all sanitary and come in a box."

Me: "I'll wash my eggs and box them for you too."

Her: "Blech, no way. I could never eat eggs from your chickens. That's just gross."

Me: "***?"
