My friends dad told her not to get a roo because fertile eggs not only taste ' funny ' but they don't store as long as infertile. The scary thing is that her dad used to own a battery hen farm. So for 30+ years he's been telling anyone that would listen , " fertile eggs are no good ".

While not stupid, this is a little funny to me. So, my rooster has these giant spurs on him, and it was damaging my hens. So I decided that I was going to get rid of them, using the hot potato method. THAT NIGHT... two weeks later, I still hadn't done it for fear that I would mess up, and hurt him. Well, tonight, I got the courage, put on the potatoes, and got ready the pliers. When it was time to twist them off, I was so freaked out, lol. I had to keep myself from closing my eyes, and I twisted HARD. A little two hard, as I had to stop the momentum when they came off so easily! I felt so stupid being nervous over something so easy, lol. I guess we all live and learn!>

You don't need the hot potato. They will pop off with just a little twist. I was amazed at how simple it is to remove spurs.

You don't need a hot potato. Simply grasp the spur with pliers, snugly, give a little twist and the spur will pop right off. My roosters never even struggle. There might be a few drops of blood. You will be amazed at how easy it is.
