Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I must live in the wrong area. Most of the people I tell about our eggs say no thanks! I stopped giving them away when I found out the person threw them in the garbage after taking them.

My chickens love scrambled eggs and the ravens love them too.

When the weather warms up, take some to a farmers' market, or other such market place. People who shop places like Whole Foods would kill for your eggs.

Need a license to sell them at a farmer's market here and to keep them cold. We can sell off our property without that.

In the COUNTY (think farm land) you must have an acre fenced with a maxium of 5 chicken. yes limited to 5 an acre fenced.

We live in the county here, WAY out in the boonies, so we can have as many as we want, but I know my mom had an acre on county land where it met up with the city limits and she was restricted from having more than a few. I can't remember exactly how many, but it was a very few. She had a broody that hatched 12 eggs and she had to get rid of those.

Good idea! We have several farmer's market type places around in the summer. :)

Be sure that you advertise heavily that your eggs are from happy, spoiled chickens who free range in their own yard; dark yellow yolks = higher in Omega 3s and lower in cholesterol than store bought. Super fresh, too! This should attract the kind of "foodies" who don't mind paying a little more for better quality. Many people still believe "you get what you pay for".

One of my feed stores buys eggs.  I just took them 8 dozen.  They have folks coming from miles away to buy them.  Last summer, I sold all that my girls produced from a cooler at the end of my driveway. I live on a dead end road, so my sign has been down for the season, but expect that when snow season is over, and the sign goes up at the front end of my road, I'll be back in business for my neighbors.

Another excellent idea and no licensing is required. This is how I bought my eggs before I got tired of them not being available in the colder months.

And yet another good idea is a garden center or plant nursery. I was delivering eggs to a buyer who worked at the garden center and didn't think I'd get out in one piece when the customers saw the eggs. I could've sold a truckload, if I'd had them. All kinds of curbside or country stores will sell them for you if they think the eggs will attract customers.

but in Indiana that is illegal unless you get permits and inspections if you sell eggs off the property that they are raised on and you sell under a certain number of eggs (an unreachable number for most chicken owners here)
