Just the usual: ran out of eggs over the holiday and figured the store was closed, so I sent our 17yo and 20-something house guests to the farm lady up the road. They came back with a dozen white, and a dozen brown eggs. The 17yo was completely shocked about the white eggs, and gave me the usual "store eggs are bleached" comment. So we spent a few minutes looking at differently colored eggs.

This sounds like a case of someone hearing that commercial eggs are rinsed in water with bleach added, and jumping to the conclusion that the color is, therefore, bleached out of the eggs. Duh Sadly, too many people don't take the time to think things through before making assumptions. Unfortunately, these people don't limit their poor reasoning habits to how food is produced; they also vote and make policies that affect the lives of others. Thank you for educating this one early enough to catch it before rushing into assumptions becomes a habitual way of responding.

I've had a customer say to my blue eggs, did you paint the eggs because that's not good you know.

Bleach probly won't change the egg color unless it was in ther for awhike but I've seen a lot of people recommend bleach in there "egg baths" so I wouldn't be the least by suprised if they did it in industrial setting alike. I don't know why people would use bleach. It's a freaking mutagen lol it will mess with your lady parts!

i ended up with having to remove my blue Araucana eggs from the cartons because so many people were put off by the color and i didn't sell enough

I have started asking people which color eggs they want. I even let them pick their own out from my egg case if it makes them happy. We will use whatever they don't.

Crazy!
There are people here in Northern California that will pay EXTRA for green or blue eggs: up to $8/dozen.
Which, I guess, is its own form of crazy...
