Dumor Chicken Feed - Anyone getting dust instead of Crumbles ?

I just bought Dumor Crumbles and when I dumped the feed, all I got was dust and a few crumbles. The is the second time I have bought the Dumor Crumbles and gotten dust. I am going back today and complain and hopefully get my money back. Just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem?

This is my usual feed, too; but the last bag of crumbles was very dusty and had these weird clumps. I am now using Purina Layena.
I do believe that every brand will have powder problems, simply because of its weight and how it is stored.

I was having similar problems and felt like my chickens were lacking (chowing down on discarded feathers) so I switched to Layeena also. Dumar feed had essence of mold to me, didn't like the smell of it.
Too bad Farm and Home is too far away since I moved, they used to carry Kent feed which I thought was very good. Since they are just on their first bag of Layeena I don't know yet if it's any better.

Pretty much every feed that is nationally distributed is milled in the state it is sold (or a nearby state). If you're buying Dumor in California, it's a different feed than people buying Dumor in Iowa, and that's a different feed than people buying it in the Carolinas.

If you're having issues with feeds crumbling, it's generally due to storage/handling issues - it is winter and you may be getting food that has been stored longer/etc. It may be worth trying a different store, or a different brand, but there's a better than average chance that the Purina is produced in one of the same mills the Dumor is, and sourcing ingredients from the same places.

So - try different things, but I wouldn't make any long term decisions either way. These things happen.

I feed Dumor, Purina, and Southern States mostly - depending on what's available, how far I feel like driving, what's on sale, etc - and I've had occasional problems with all of them - as well as with more expensive feeds. They all vary month to month based on grain availability/prices.

Was using Dumor crumbles--- hens were not eating it--- lost a lot of condition on my girls, I too suspect mold or poor quality ingredients. Doing much better now that I have gone to a reputable local brand which actually costs less but is 15 min further drive than the TSC. Will not use Dumor again.

I use DoMor. I call it DustMor. Not onlt that. it looks different every time. It's usually brown but sometines it's almost white, other times it's almost black, sometimes it has baseball size chunks of sticky crud that looks like they just ran a batch of sweet feed through the same mill. But it's cheap and the chickens like it.

Just throwing this out there but if y'all can find and try a bag of protrition brand my birds live it and do very well and it's never powdery to the extent of other feeds I've tried. And I'm not even a paid endorser lol

I am glad I found this tread. I have noticed that the Dumor Crumbles have been diminishing in quality for the past 4 bags or so. The dust has gotten worse at each purchase. I fill a sealed tight container and noticed the level of the feed was getting lower on each bag (more dust less volume), and this last bag was the worst! It is a huge problem, because my girls will not eat the dust, so they push the dust out to get the crumble and there is a terrible amount of waste. The feed area is littered with dust and crumble, and I do not like to leave it that way because I want to minimize the food that will be exposed to their droppings. So I do a clean up and throw away dust and perfectly good feed. Any savings from buying the Dumor product is in the garbage!

This last bag the dust level was so bad, that I used a colander to sift out the dust and collect the crumble. I used a home scale, and here is what I found. I took 10 pounds of feed and sifted it through the colander. I ended with 7 pounds of crumble and 3 pounds of dust! Crazy! You do the math on a 50 pound bag and tell me, did I save anything?

I purchased my feed from Tractor Supply (apparently Purina makes this brand exclusively for Tractor Supply). When I called, the manager said she called Purina and they said they have not heard any complaints. I found that difficult to believe, so I am sadly happy to see others have the same problem, and posted this thread. I cannot stand dishonesty and deceit! I will do my best NOT to purchase anything that comes from Purina. I have purchased Blue Seal Crumble (hoping that it is not an affiliate of Purina). It is a little more expensive, but with the poor quality of the Dumor product, I will save money! So far the dust levels seem "normal". The crumble is smaller, but my girls don't seem to mind. If you have any feedback on this product or can recommend another product, by all means post it so you can help me and other backyard chicken owners.

Adding water to dusty feed will make it palatable reducing feed wastage. In hot weather, using chilled water is even better and the chickens love wet feed.
