I feed mine layer pellets 20% protien, from Nichols Feed, it is usually a little less, and I like having the extra protien. They also have grit/ oyster shell, and DRY shavings, since TSC seems to always have thiers stored outside and its usually wet. If TSC is your only choice it isnt bad, but I prefer the above, and I get medicated chick starter from Oxford supply.

I feed my layers Dumor and they seem to be thriving. 7-9 eggs daily from my 10, nearly 7 month old pullets, with no supplemetal light or heat.

I feed the pellets instead of the crumbles. It's cheaper by about $2 per 50 pound bag, and I don't have as much wasted food as I did with the crumbles.

I tried the crumbles, but they ended up ALL OVER THE PLACE, so I switched to pellets. I got 13 eggs today from 21 6 mo. olds, so they must like the feed okay.

with the layer pellets do you have to use grit? I think TSC only sells the crumbles, but I'll check.

No, crumbles are just pellets that have been crumbled. You really dont need grit unless you feed food other than bagged feed. TSC also sells pellets, but sometimes they dont have all types in stock.
