I got a call today about a tiny gosling that was staying all night next to his dead friend at Lake Murray. There was very bad weather last night, which is probably why his friend died. He appears to be about a week old or less. The staff there thought he was hatched at the lake, but he doesn't match any of the colors that any of the pairs there would have if they had goslings. Plus, other than one young Canada goose who goes off on his own a lot, none of the geese were observed tending any nests or acting like they were tending nests. None of the geese seemed to claim him when he was put with them, though several were curious.

When I first saw him, I thought Pekin, but his head looked different and he acted strange. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

**Update--It's possible that he is a Pekin duck even with the odd shaped head. I thought he was a duck, at first, but he didn't act like a duck and his head and legs look different. Anyway, I think he's got a permanent home no matter what he is!

Thats a duckling, not a gosling. The beak is much too flat and long to be a goose. It is going to be an all white duck, possibly a pekin but it may be a white muscovy or a mix.

I thought he was a duck, at first, but his head doesn't look quite right, nor does his legs. Sorry for all the confusion and defensiveness. We shall see as he gets older what he really is. Anyway, the lady I took him to is giving him a permanent home.

Here is a photo of him with a better profile.

Maybe he is a pekin duck afterall, looking at all the photos. He sure doesn't act like a duck and his head looks different to me than the other Pekins ducks I've seen.

Well the little cutie is snuggled up to a warm rice bag, eating and peeping contentedly, as long as he doesn't get pneumonia from being left out in the wet and cold last night he should be fine and spoiled rotten!

He does look a lot like my Pekin ducklings, which are a week old as well. I don't know anything about geese, though. Here's a picture of my ducklings for comparison:

Well the ducky did fine last night, seems happy as long as there is food and water! I did put vitamins in the water for a little boost but it seems to be healthy:D
