Dumpster Diving-Garage Sale-Goodwill-Thrift Store & Craigslist Finds

At the local Goodwill, I got a pair of "Not Your Daughters Jeans", retailed for $117.........paid $5.99! I also get lots of unique decorating items, throw pillows from Pier One, 4 woven "bamboo" panel window treatments that sold for $99 EACH, I paid $4.99 for all 4!

The University here is the same "gold mine" for trash at the end of the school year. All those brand new vacuums, irons, ironing boards, brooms, mops and other things the moms send the kids off to school with, hit the dumpster, usually never used. Microwaves, tvs and a variety of other things too.



(couches are often tossed in the street and burnt-as much as the fire dept tries to stop them)

Not exactly dumpster diving but hubby cleans out foreclosed and abandoned houses. It's amazing what people leave behind. He's brought home the kids tons of toys, him tools, video games, me clothes, fence, etc. Even huge unopened pakages of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, etc. All I do when I want something is tell him, and it seems like within a few months he brings it home. Of course he tends to be a hoarder and brings home entirely too much stuff, so I've been sneaking what he won't miss into the attic to sell this spring at a garage sale, lol.

this is not my find but my mom's. she collects sewing machines (yes, wierd) but at the church sale they had a very old singer sewing machine in the cabinet, complete with a reciept from the original buyer. it turns out it was my grandfathers and the worst part, my mom did NOT buy it. she left if for someone else that could use it more- can you believe that!! it was less then $50. I'd want it just because it was my grandfathers (my grandmother died when my dad was 2 so gramps was mom and dad back then)

My most recent find was some duck decoys and a whole pile of camo material set out to the road for heavy trash pickup. I ended up with 49 decoys, a big piece of netting and a duck blind minus the frame. I don't hunt so had NO idea on what to charge. I put it all on CL for 200.00 Luckily I found someone who I felt was honest with me and paid me 150.00 for the blind/netting and said I could probably get about 50.00 or maybe alittle more for the decoys. I offered them to him for 25.00 just to get them gone but he declines. A guy down the roadwas visiting and overheard me and gave me the 30.00. So I made 180.00 off someone elses "trash".
