Dumpster Diving-Garage Sale-Goodwill-Thrift Store & Craigslist Finds

Well, I don't know if mine counts but I got 10 free chicks for every bag of feed that I bought this weekend, so I bought 5 bags of feed = 50 chicks. :/

I think my husband would never, ever let me go to the feed store if that was the case :)    He has finally seen the benefits of thrift stores and roadside finds.  We are replacing the old wood windows in our barn and I take them out to the road 2-3 days before trash day and they always dissappear.

Okay, so my husband gets embarrassed when I ask for seemingly unwanted items. He refuses to stop if I spot something and has offered many times to buy me a car. My reply? I will accept a car but I KEEP MY TRUCK- I can't haul good finds in a car! An ad he said I shouldn't have placed for scrap lumber netted a 20'×20' building's worth of 2×4s and 2×6s that we have used to build an 8'×24' porch with roof and an outdoor brooder coop with a big stack of lumber left over. Lesson learned:)

Great Lesson Learned!

Good job! :thumbsup

As a kid I was embarrassed by my Dad "garbage picking". He used to rebuild bicycles and actually made some decent money fixing them up and selling them.

Now that I'm old(er) I do some "garbage picking" of my own. I took in some scrap metal today and netted $35 for about 45 minutes worth of time. That was enough to pay for the chicken feed.

I was driving this weekend and noticed that someone had put this Sago Palm tree at the road for trash pickup . Well, I turned around and picked it up and brought it home. It had a lot of bulbs on it so I gave some to my cousin so he could plant them at his house. The tree is a little over 3 feet tall. It took 2 people to load up in the truck.

They have a neighborhood clean-up every year where my sister lives. i've gotten some great scores there. But now there are people driving around with trucks and large trailers, scooping nearly everything the moment it hits the curb. That's fine, better than having things crunched up and taken to the dump. Went there yesterday and managed to find some nice and needed stuff. Four plastic chairs to use in the chicken pens, a sturdy wooden bench for us and the goats, a louvered door i can fix and turn long-ways for a short fence, then some lattice - one large piece of plastic lattice and two smaller wooden ones which you can't see in the pic. Also got the rails from a crib. My sister took the side pieces to use as a trellis for her plants. i took the end pieces to use as fencing or gates. When you have goats, you always need fencing material. :)

Just got to the dump today when this old dude was getting ready to throw this into the compactor. It's a ryobi 4cycle with changeable heads. I just happen to have the same ryobi string trimmer, which was also found at the dump, mine is a 2 cycle but still fits the shaft of the 4 cycle. I put the tiller on the 2 cycle and it works like a charm. The 4 cycle I sprayed some starting fluid into the air cleaner and it ran until the

juice was gone so it probably just needs a carb cleaning. That's all the 2 cycle needed when I found it. Has to be the find of the summer.

everything i find is always taken... .there was a free 110 gallon fishtank with the stand, filter, decor, everything....

Scored a free Whether Nigerian Goat - thank you craigslist

Got a whole stack of good shovels, 5 bucks at a estate sale, the guy also threw in a wire spooler for extension cords I was going to get, and another pick axe...which I think I have 5 of now...
