Dumpster Diving-Garage Sale-Goodwill-Thrift Store & Craigslist Finds

Sitting out by the road I saw two - 3 tiered bird or rabbit cages.  When I went to ask about if they were out for heavy trash she said to come around back.  I came back about 3 hours later and filled a 10' trailer with  multiple single bird cages, some on stands, and several breeder cages for either birds or they can be used for rabbits.  All have a tray underneath to catch droppings.  I'm in the process of cleaning them all now and will take to the Amish auction next week to see what I can get out of them.

WOW!!!! Good job! :thumbsup

Lets get a few things straight. The dumpster doesnt belong to the land owner its on. It belongs to the dumpster people. Im fairly certin its illegal to dive just about any where. DO i dive? No, why? because veryone around here has gone to the big compactors.

but if they still have regular dumpsters id be all over it.
Sorry but technically speaking the store owner rents the dumpster so in essence they "own" it for as long as they contract with that hauler (I know this because my cousin worked in the office of one of our large regional haulers and I went to school all 12 years with a boy who worked with his grand father and uncle's private hauling service and they both said the same thing). Plus most large big box stores don't actually own their own big box stores in most cases because if they build a new store they are stuck with the old location so they are now going to long term leasing, (19 years retail plus family in diverse retail companies/environments).

scored a nice craftsman lawnmower at the dump yesterday. Grandson brought it home. Took carb off and cleaned it with a paper towel, replaced it and one pull started it. Needs a air cleaner, and another spark

plug. 6.5hp nothing fancy but, it works.

Too bad I have to work (or maybe good for my wallet) that I can't make it to Dinky's since you listed from SW Indiana I figure you meant your taking them there. BTW on a different note is I69 going through the area between US 50 and Odon????

Oh my gosh, I have to share this. this wonderfully weird and funny thing was looking so lonely on the bottom shelf at goodwill, I had to buy it($2). It's handmade and meant to be a planter. It needs some touch up paint but I'm not sure what I will do with it yet... just knew i had to have it though

Makes me smile every time i look at it... could you imagine what my future kids/grand kids might think if this became some sort of family heirloom?? LOL

Great find. :thumbsup

I love garage sales, and will be sad when they end for the year. Anyways this year I bought 1 5 gallon kritter keeper, with rocks, and decor for $5. I also got another 5 gallon tank in great shape at petsmart it runs close to $50 for $5. I have picked up a number of cheap 10 gallons over the years also. I have found good deals on other things to.

DH and I both work weekends, so we don't get to do much in the way of garage sales. However...the man is a GENIUS at finding treasures at the thrift stores and flea markets! His latest find was a 3 foot tall pagoda. We'd been wanting a decoration/focal point for our front yard and everything we say was way too much money or too big or too small...this is awesome! Right size, right price ($8). It was all black, but he spray painted the 3 roofs a bright red and I painted the spire a nice shiny gold...it looks great!

Here it is in the front yard. Hope it's real now, LOL

We went to an "Estate sale" about a month ago.. spent a total of $ 65.
Came home with 4 nearly new saw horses, a window fan for the kitchen (one that stays in the window and can be turned on to blow in or out of the room)., a BIG work bench with a tool chest under it (also has electric run to it, a shop light attached to the top as well as a vise on the side). The guy who was selling in the garage told us we could have whatever was inside the tool chest part of it for free.. when we got it home my husband pulled out about $ 400. worth of assorted tools from the tool chest part. We also got a second tool chest (with another $ 150 or so worth of tools in it for free).. plus some metal ramps for working on his car.

I priced the work bench online and found out it costs around $300 brand new.

We have also gotten dog crates and aquariums off of Craigslist.. plus my husband found a nice big air compressor that works great for free
