Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows how long the "withdrawal time" is on the Duramycin for treating upper respiratory infections in chickens? My flock of 15 just finished their 2 weeks on it and it says on the pkg that the withdrawal rate has yet to be established in chickens and turkeys. It also says though that if you were to slaughter (NOT happening to MY peeps! lol) the chickens to wait 4 days...so surely if you can eat the chicken after 4 days you should be able to EAT the eggs after that time. Wouldnt you think? :/What do you all do? Thanks so much!

WARNING

Do not slaughter birds or swine for food within 4 days of treatment or calves within 5 days of treatment. A withdrawal period has not been established for this product in pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal. Not for use in turkeys or chickens producing eggs for human consumption. Do not use for more than 5 consecutive days in swine and calves, or 14 consecutive days in birds.

Found that online. http://www.drugs.com/vet/duramycin-10.html

I think to weeks is plenty of time...I was eating eggs from my chickens a week after I got done giving them roundworm medicine

I'm not sure if this is the best way to reply (I'm new to the discussion group) so bear with me if it's wrong

my chickens have been off the duramycin since Sunday so theyve only been off the meds for 3 days. I sure miss those eggs but theyre not going to waste...I scramble them and feed them back to them everyday. I bet they'll miss that when we start consuming them again. LOL

I hadnt thought of that. Thank-You. It would only extend one day though as I would gather their eggs 1 day and feed them the scrambled eggs from the gathering the day before. I have 14 hens and 1 rooster and get 11-13 eggs a day...anyway, the last time they were fed the antibiotic was Sunday which means they ate Sundays eggs on Monday....so 4 days would be Friday, not Thursday. My question, though, is has anyone actually treated their chickens (laying hens) with the duramycin-10 and if sooooo, how long before you ate the eggs. I'm new to the forum, not new to chickens. Thank-You so much to all who replied so far

Thank-You....I wonder why its ok to EAT the chicken after 4 days off the medication (thats what it says on the pkg), hmmm, but 21 days before you can eat the eggs. Strange, but oh well...they will get to keep enjoying their daily scrambled eggs. I'm glad they dont know what theyre eating or I'd never get to eat the eggs! Thanks for the info.
