My 4 BR's are sick. I went to the TS store the other day to look for Tylan (mentioned on this forum) but this is the only powdered type antiobiotic they had. From the back of the package: 400 mg per gallon per day for infectious synovitis. What I came up with is .4 gram to a gallon of water, or for the quart waterer that I am using (watching it carefully through the day to refill) only .1 gram. I have only a postal scale and this is barely a sprinkle before it reads a full gram (not sensitive enough).
I strongly sense I am not figuring the amount right. I need to figure this out because the poor turkeys are sneezing like crazy and have goop in their eyes (well, just Tom) and have very swollen "cheeks"/sinuses. They are eating but clearly not their perky selves.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Elsie
(PS, I bought powdered vitamins too. Can I put them in the same water with the antibiotic?)

First of all WELCOME to BYC.To answer your Question I cut off a five gallon bucket and mixed one tablespoon of duramycin 10 to a gallon of water and let it soak in some of there food overnight.I did this for six days and my turkeys are doing alot better.Hope this helps

Would this be the same dosage for sick chickens? I don't have any sick ones but I would like to know ahead of time! Thank you

Thank you for your welcome. I have been reading for a few years (3?) and have gleaned so much applicable information. I have had bunch of chickens since 1995 or so but these are my first heritage turkeys. I was rabidly anti antibiotic until last week

I never even thought of mixing the treated water with the food. I will give that a try. I actually have a cut off 5- gallon pail (they are so sturdy and useful and available!) Tom still looks pretty miserable this afternoon. I hope he maintains his eyesight; the "boogers" are really thick over his eyes. So gross.
