Dust bath

So, I have 6 baby chicks about 21 days and 3 are starting to do dust baths in the brooder in the shavings. Should I check them for bugs or should I just add a little bowl for them in the brooder ? I have DE and was going to use ash from my fire place. I attached a picture of the brooder. I tried to add a video of them but didn’t have any success.

Dust bathing is an instinctive thing, has nothing to do with them actually having parasites. Your chicks will appreciate having access to a small dust bath, though I'd stick with just some plain dirt from outside if your brooder is inside, as ash can really fly.

X2!! My chicks will just dust bathe in whatever they can find (ie shavings, dirt ,wooden pellets) I think is also a bonding experience for them you know?
