Hey guys!

First time baby chicks momma. We have 4 little ones at about a week old. I was reading about dust baths. When and how do I do this for the littles?

Using the FG DE and/or ash or a little of both in their dust baths as adults helps with the dirt to eradicate mites and lice as they "bathe." It smothers them. Little chicks shouldn't have those, especially if they are raised indoors. I don't usually let ours dust bathe until they get outside, but if they're going to be in the house for several weeks, I've gotten a cardboard box and cut it down to about 3" high, put some garden dirt in there, a very small amt of DE and if we've got ash, I put a little of that in there. It's good to use some dirt from where they will eventually be moved to so it exposes them to a smaller amount of coccidiosis.

Our adults have dust baths throughout our gardens and yard, so I sprinkle some of each in those every so often.
