my dust bath for the winter....(they make their own in the summer under the trees)...is equal parts of... saw dust....ash....and dirt

I use a plastic tub with sand & DE mixed in the run, same as the picture in Steve's post. They make holes out under the junipers when they free range, they use both.

Our hens will create a nice scoop out in the dirt and bathe in the dry dirt under the covered run or out in the yard, dry dirt is the ticket.

Hi, I used a 55 gallon plastic drum with the top cup out of it. Put on side beside coop in run and put DE dirt, sand, wood ashes, and potting soil in to it. Staked it in place and
and put a 1X6 board in front to keep sand in and they used it all last winter.
