How big should a dust bathing area be for three chickens? I was thinking maybe a three foot circle. What do you think? I saw a picture on Fresh-Eggs-Daily facebook page of her dust bathing area. It had logs in a circle then sand in the middle. So that was what I was thinking about doing since a friend of mine cut down a tree and I could get some logs from her. Thanks so much!

On a chicken blog I follow, their dirt bath for 12 chickens is a kitty litter box thingy with sand, wood ash, and DE inside. They seem to enjoy it, and it's a cheap, easily maintainable dirt bath.

If you want, spoil your chickens with a huge dirt bath! It'll be like a spa!

I've got 6 chicks and I use a kitty litter box with sand and DE inside. Like chippysmom said very easy to clean. I just use a litter scoop. My girls love it. Warning though they do get sand everywhere but so fun to watch.

I tried a kitty litter box for my six girls but it was was no where big enough for them. I ended up happily giving them my daughters turtle sand box (I always hated that thing) and it's perfect!! All six girls normally hang out in there together, such silly things.

I use a small barrel laid on its side with the wood ash, de, peat moss and some seven dust in there put blocks on the side to keep it from rolling . quick easy and dosent get wet when it rains the bantys love it. For the bigger girls i went to manards and bought a liner for the whisky barrels it was only about five bucks ,i keep it in the coop so it dont get wet

Thanks Everybody!

Thanks again!
Your welcome and I'm sure they will love anything you give them! My 6 girls would try and get in the litter box all together, it was always a hoot watching them try and squeeze in

Chickens R us - my doesn't have a hood. Just a simple litter box. At first when they were chick I just used a plastic shoe tote. Now that they are getting older I hardly ever see more than two in it at a time. Sharing is good.
