My 9 week old pullets went dust bathing in mud. Apparently, they didn't read the whole article about dust bathing. Anyway, my beautiful white leghorns are caked in mud. Do I need to do anything to clean them up, or will they be able to handle the problem themselves? Please advise. Thanks.

Our white, feather footed bantams always manage to clean the mud of their feathered feet just fine after they've been through the mud. Then they look beautiful, until they go tromping trough the mud again.

When one of my chickens was a little over four weeks old she dust bathed in a puddle. She was soaked and covered in mulch. I had to give her a bath and towel dry her. Some chickens just don’t get the memo I guess. It should be fine as long as it’s only on the feathers and not the skin.
