Dust baths

Havent seen this topic. Would my chicks benefit from a dust bath? What would I use for that?

Your chicks don't necessarily NEED a dust bath, but they'll love you forever if you give them one. My chicks have a dust bath in the brooder from day one. I simply find some loose dirt in the yard somewhere, put it in a shallow Tupperware container and let them have at it. If you're feeding foods other than their starter, the dirt can be a source of grit as well. I use dirt because its readily available and fits my budget (doesn't get any cheaper then free!), but you could use ash from a woodstove or sand. Good luck!

Might try some sand. Not sure if im ready to introduce the outside world to there box. Afraid I might shovel up some unwanted pest.
